I've an old GeGonzo4 Ti 4200 with AGP8x, have a FPS of more than 110-120. Most games I'm playing works finw & fluently. With 1152 x 864 pixels. And my notebook has a n00bish ATI! Okay, it's not better than my GeGono I know. But my vote is ...
... NVIDIA - it ROOOCKZZZ!

I think it comes down to preferences really.
My puter handles TCE with ease...if I shutdown MSN messenger, Skype, Kodak Easyshare and all the other programs running in my task bar while I am playing.
I notice that my CPU usage is now nearly 100% when I am playing TCE.
I just want a little more power so I don't have to keep going through the same routine each time.
I also want to play Vanguard.

I am now thinking of upgrading my PC and stumbled into this forum hoping to bring it back to life.
I ordered a game called Vanguard Saga of Heros and when I tried it, I realised that my PC is now getting old cos I couldn't play the damn game without walking around like a rusty robot (lag).
I have:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
2.01 GHz & 1.00GB of RAM
My graphics card: NVIDIA GeGonzo FX 5600XT
So the challenge.....
Pimp me up for €100-€150
Is it possible? |
some info about your motherboard would be nice

- upgrade of graphics card type RadeonX800 or X1800 series, each card about 100€ in ebay e.g.
- upgrade RAM to 2GB...1024 additional noname for about 50€
et voilá

the GE-5600 is the weekest part and may limit your game-performance a lot. You might get around 30% better framerates with a newer 6600, 6800,.. - except your mainboard limits the agp-performance too.
I am using a Sempron-2000+ (thats 1.800MHz only) and a GeForce-6600. Runs Doom3 and Quake4 with 800x600 resolution good playable, - tce runs in 1280x1024 around 60-70 fps and with 1GB memory and the 0.49b version no fire-freeze-lags. Playing old standard et, i have to limit the fps-rate(sync-on) or sometimes my gfx-crashes(fps-rates over 140 seems to make my gfx-card fail, could be cause i had to replace the cool-fan, after it moved no more and did overheat). I am using the GeGonzo-GFX since years because there are nearly no problems to have 3d-enabled linux-drivers.
