yes, yes - i need some help. i don't know what is going on with my TCE ping. It all started few days ago - after i had reinstalled my xp. Before that everything worked just fine:
So my CPU is:
Amd Athlon - 2,6 Ghz (it runs max 2,06 Ghz)
512 RAM
Gf4 Ti4200 + the newest drivers that are on the net
Mainboard: Abit NF7-S (Nforce-2)
My connection is working fine - pages are loading quickly, when i download some files i have speed reaching even 200 KB/s but usually its in range of 90 - 150 KB/s (it depends from time of the day ).
It's have wireless connection.
******
But there is this very pesimistic version:
cooler on my GFX card has been broken for about 6 months now - but it has worked just fine until now (playing games like Quake 4, Half Life 2, Doom 3 - on high details), ofcourse i have installed an additional cooler myself.
my power supply adaptor is not very good, my previous has gone off ;P so i've bought some cheap shit (but i hadn't much choice )
so i have two problems from that (i think):
- after pushing the reset - the computer won't start, the monitor diode is blinking and nothing happens
- when i play some games, the computer switches off: i mean that the monitor wents off, and it's like after reset state
So I think the problem is caused by:
- broken GFX
- bad power adaptor
- broken mainboard
So i have this dilema, i can replace them - but which part is causing problem???? And do this have something with the bad TCE ping???

hi pads!
really a good discription!!!
yes, maybe it`s your videocard. but first check all temperatures (everest home 2.20 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html)!
here`s a compilation of all my suggestions:
winXP
> install servicepack 2 for XP
> use "XPAntispy" http://xp-antispy.org/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/
> run "HijackThis" http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html
> use "AntivirPE" (free) http://www.free-av.com/
> run "AdawarePersonal" and VX-Cleaner (free) once per week http://www.lavasoft.com/
> use "Firefox" for browsing not that unsecure microsoft stuff http://www.mozilla.com/
> surf only on pornsites you`re trusting in
bad ping
open the "etconfig.cfg" with the editor and edit the settings shown in the table (use search option under edit). you will find that file in your tc:e folder. make a backup of it before you edit something
ADSL / Cable / Wireless:
seta cl_maxpackets "100"
seta cl_packetdup "1"
seta snaps "40"
seta rate "25000"
LAN:
seta cl_maxpackets "125"
seta cl_packetdup "0"
seta snaps "40"
seta rate "25000"
http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Quake3/connection.html (you will find some framerate and visual tweaks there too).
tc:e
- update punkbuster (better do that two or three times)
- close all(!) running programs before starting tc:e (controlpanels, networkmonitors, filesharing...)
- disable firewall and antivirus (not needed to play)
what about your wireless lan? you got a router? is it possible for you to establish a wired internet connection for a test?
greetz and good luck

your log is ok! but i noticed that you don`t use a fixed ip for your pc and that you`re using zonealarm as firewall. if you have a router, there`s no need to use a software firewall, coz the router allready blocks all that bad stuff and two firewalls a really to much...
here`s a how to for that fixed ip thing: http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_windows_fixedip.html (no...the guy on the picture is not me! ) preferred dns server is the ip of your router.
before you do something, try to play on other servers and not on our public! yesterday we noticed that a few players got a 999 ping after that megalag...

hmm... i've played on other servers, but i will check it thoroughly. I suppose it's all the same

hey pads, i`m really sorry that it won`t work!
ping is ok, coz you`re connecting from an other country. it`s stable for 5 min or till mapchange(?). some other players have the same problem on differnet servers!!!
is some one in your family using the internet connection (filesharing or something) too? can you play on other servers?
try a punkbuster disabled server:

nope, i'm the only one using pc - however my sis do her dirty talking with those filthy communicators
yes i have a good 50 - 100 ping for about 5 minutes or so, and then suddenly the ping starts to appear but not instantly. the situation is the same on different servers - e.g on tce-force. then if i want to reconnect after that - the ping is usually 999 from the start, but after 30 minutes or so - it's again nice 50 or 60, and after 5 min the situation repeats .
it seems that it's not the fault of my connection (e.g the ping test shows that)
hmm... next week i will replace my power adaptor to something more stable
the next thing i will do is to change my os to linux - it's high time to migrate from this pure XP thing and have some fun with dirty linux kernel XD. Maybe it will help. The 0.49 will be Linux compatible, so i don't have to be afraid . and what is more important linux will help me to become more aware of my CPU processes. i hope that ping thing will eventually come to an end....
regards..

yep! this is rather impossible. thx for all your help and time Rafty.
now i will try my best to solve it myself. i hope all this ping problem is caused by some hardware issues - they can be solved somehow... and i'm looking forwad to that os change, hopefully Linux will be the solution! Wish me luck!
