I'd love to go for the Sombrero Galaxy and I will, but it is very far south in the sky and only visible around springtime. There is a forest to the south that blocks my way to the horizon. I can get the sombrero, but I need a shed in my front garden, first, to get a better view southwards.
Besides: The ISS is a few hundred km away, nebulae a few thousand lightyears and galaxies are millions to billions of lightyears away - so they are not really 'between' the iss and nebulae.
There is not really a difference in the amount of time necessary to take a pic of a galaxy or a nebula. Well... it can be but I am trying to improve quality. As you can see from my first pictures, short exposures lead to quite an amount of noise.
That is only partially true, but it all is very complicated and you don't really want the full explanation.

For now, I put down M104 to my list of to-do-objects for next March or better April and marked it as "Bio's request". Very Happy

After discussing the ISS-topic with other amateur astronomers, I have to correct myself a little: It is indeed quite hard to get a decent shot of the ISS with my equipment, because my setup is heavy and you have to follow the movement of the ISS at least a little. I would need special software to program a trace-route and another type of camera (send me 800,-€ pls.) would help, too.
Still - it remains a very boring thing... Rolling Eyes

A few nights ago I returned to imaging the "Crescent Nebula". I then added the new images to the ones I had taken in late may. I replaced the old image. Still far from perfect, I guess I'll content myself with this for the time being.
So please look here to see the update.

Hello again!

This picture shows the reflection nebula NGC 7023 aka the "Iris Nebula". Actually this is not finished yet but clear skies have again become quite rare and I decided to take on a new object tonight and postpone imaging for this one to next year since it starts moving into the light dome of the city.
I will update the image then, but I thought you might like to see it, even if I expect it to become a little more spectacular.

The Iris Nebula is about 1,300 lightyears away from us in the constellation Cepheus. Unlike the Elephants Trunk, it is not emitting Light by itself but reflects the light of the bright star that lies inside it. Where the nebula is not lit by the star, it blocks out the light of the stars behind it. You will see the brownish dark part of it, after I collected more light.

For the time being, this is the result of 50 exposures at 300s and 17 exposures at 900s (that was more a test but it went quite well). So you are looking at a total exposure time of 8 h and 25 m.

I hope you like it.

You could say that, but it is kind of an oversimplification. I'm glad you like this, anyways.
As I said b4: I am not equipped well for direct observation. So coming here would not really be very interesting. I take photos and that eats up all the money I have. That means most of the time, I sit here and watch a screen with a red and a blue graph and checking whether the camera is still following my exposure-plan.

And Bio: My liver would not survive an hour in your body. Shocked
