start et with a new X11-server, then you dont need a minimizer,
you only switch with strg+alt+F7 <-> strg+alt+F8 .......
if first x11-server is on pseudo-tty 7 and the second on the next free 8. If you have less ttys running .... only 3.... then it would be no.4 and no.5.
how to start? ...
try: from a terminal:
xinit /home/panpan/bin/et -- :1
and if the et-prog. crashes, only this x11-server should go down ....
i made a little script out of it:
#!/bin/sh
xinit /home/mysweethome/bin/et "$@" -- :1
so i can easy past my options like
+set snddevice "/dev/dsp1"
+set fs_game tcetest
+set net_port 27961
+set password itstotallysecret
+connect 81.209.167.116:27980
take care - the last ip-to-connect will beam you to the gonzo-playground....

heho,
thx for the tip  but i testet that yet. with the tool xgame http://polska.merseine.nu:8080/h2006/space/Xgame and it kicks my old machine totally in the knees. it works fine when i am not connected to a server but if!!! FREEEEZE 
no comments in the logfiles so i decided to let it be with that gifted piece of electronicrubbish ... (maybe 256 mb ram are not enough for 2 xsessions is my opinion)
it ist hardly enough to play tce!
no druggs and alk for a week .... haha NOO! and i can buy some
maybe in the next (final final beta ) version of tce u can switch to desk with alt+return like in tremulous.
it also works in tce but u have to reload the map after that and it suckzzz with that ram.
so thx guys and cyas on gonzo server

if you wanna use some graphical game-starter and server-selection - you should give xqf a try .... there you can specify the command to start the et/tce session incl. via a separete x11 server per xinit ...

um et zu minimizen. kannst dann z.b. kurz ins ts reingucken oder auf pornoseiten surfen und musst nicht immer den fenster modus benutzen beim zocken...  
ich hab keine ahnung obs funktioniert
